Coaching
What coaching is
Coaching is a structured conversation with one purpose: helping you think clearly about what you want, and work out how to get there.
It is not advice, and it is not therapy. A coach does not tell you what to do, and does not treat a condition. What a coach does is ask the questions that help you see your own situation more clearly — and then hold you to the plan you make.
The kind of coaching we do
Our coaching is non-directive. We do not arrive with a diagnosis of your situation or a programme to put you through. Every session is built around the person in it: there is no fixed curriculum and no script.
We work across four areas: career and professional decisions, periods of transition, leadership and management, and personal goals. What they have in common is that none of them is solved by being told the answer.
We work with established frameworks — GROW, the Wheel of Life, and others — but we use the one that fits the conversation you are actually having, and sometimes none of them. We also work on self-awareness and emotional intelligence: understanding your own reactions well enough to choose your response rather than repeat it.
We work online, so we can fit around your schedule wherever you are.
Coaching for individuals
People come to coaching for different reasons: a career decision, a goal that keeps slipping, a sense of being stuck, a change they want to make but keep postponing.
In our sessions we work on:
- Setting goals that are actually yours — not the ones you think you should have
- Understanding what gets in the way — the habits, assumptions and fears that keep repeating
- Building a plan you will follow — practical, specific, realistic
- Staying accountable — because the hard part is rarely knowing what to do; it is doing it
Coaching for organisations
We work with companies, managers and teams.
With managers and leaders, we focus on the skills that rarely get taught formally: giving feedback that actually changes something, holding a difficult conversation without damage, motivating people who are not motivated by the same things you are, and making decisions when the information is incomplete.
With teams, we focus on communication and collaboration — why people who want the same outcome still end up misaligned, and what can be done about it.
Coaching in an organisation tends to work where training alone does not. A course can teach someone what to say. Coaching helps them understand why they have not been saying it — and that is usually where the real change happens.
Sessions can be one-to-one with individual managers, or in small groups. We agree the programme with you after understanding what your organisation actually needs.
Where to go from here
If you would like to see how we actually work, our Coaching Tools page describes the frameworks we use in our sessions, one by one.
And if you already know what you are working on — whether for yourself or for your organisation — write to us and tell us about it.
