Talking about feelings in Italian
Can you talk about your feelings in Italian? After this free audio lesson you will! With our help you’ll be able to express your emotions in Italian and get to know native speakers better. Perhaps this will even take your new friendships to the next level.
As you probably already know, Italian people can be very expressive. Now imagine being able to say how you really feel in an Italian conversation… Look out world!
Italians are renowned for being pretty passionate. If they ask you out, it’s entirely possible that they’ll confess their love for you on the very first date.
So you need to be prepared! In order to recognize your date’s declaration — “I am soooo in love with you!” you first have to learn the verb “to be”.
I am-io sono
You are-tu sei
She / it is-lei è
He / it is- lui è
We are-noi siamo
All of you are -voi siete
They are- loro sono
One big difference to English: In Italian it’s not necessary to use the pronoun. (That’s the words like “I”, “you”, “she”, “it”, “we”, “they”.) In fact, Italians will often leave it out. Don’t let that throw you!
Armed with this new verb, you can use (and understand) all kinds of useful romance-related phrases:
I am in love with you!- Io sono innamorato di te!
I am madly in love with you!-Io sono innamorato perso di te
You're the best thing that's ever happened to me!-Tu sei la cosa più bella che mi sia mai capitata!
He is insanely jealous- Lui è pazzo di gelosia
She has a crush on me- Lei è cotta di me
We are consumed by love for the new neighbour -Noi siamo presi d'amore per la nuova vicina di casa
You (two) are engaged- Voi siete fidanzati
They are in love with the dentist- Loro sono innamorate del dentista
Common sayings about love
There are quite a few sayings in Italian related to love. Some are quite similar to sayings we have in English.

You can't rule the heart- Al cuore non si comanda
Love is blind-L'amore è cieco
Out of sight, out of heart (ouch!)- Lontano dagli occhi, lontano dal cuore
