Directions in Italian OR "THINGS TO LISTEN FOR WHEN YOU'RE LOST"

Imagine you’re wandering through the tangled streets of Rome searching for the Colosseum.

It’s mid-Summer… the sun is beating down, and your map is a flimsy thing from the hotel that has turned to tissue in your sweaty hands. You left your sunglasses at the hotel, you’ve just run out of water, and you’re sure you’re walking in circles because that fountain looks very familiar.

It might be a good time to ask for some directions.

1. Excuse me, could you tell me how to get to the Colosseum?- Scusi, mi puรฒ dire come arrivare al Colosseo?
2. Turn right - Gira a destra
3. Turn left- Gira a sinistra
4. It's close by-รˆ qua vicino
5. It's over there-รˆ laggiรน
6. It's opposite the school-รˆ davanti alla scuola
7. It's behind the station-รˆ dietro la stazione
8. It's under the bridge- รˆ sotto il ponte
9. It's next to the church-รˆ a fianco alla chiesa
10. It's before the gas station-รˆ prima della stazione di servizio
11. It's past the ice-cream parlor- รˆ dopo la gelateria
12. If you arrive at the restaurant "Le Quattro Stagioni", you've gone too far- Se arrivi al ristorante "Le Quattro Stagioni" sei andato troppo lontano

Where is the bathroom?

Of all the travel phrases to master, this is likely one of the more important.
Italian:Dov’รจ il bagno?
English:Where is the bathroom / toilet?

The answer can be any of the directions above (although hopefully not “รˆ sotto il ponte”). If you’re in a restaurant you may take some advice from a famous Italian song that says…
Italian:”il bagno รจ sempre in fondo a destra”
English:”The bathroom is always down on the right”
